Tammy Maki, BS, RDH is currently a dental hygienist at Dental Care on Golf Links. She has worked in the dental field for the last 9 years as a hygienist and has worked at Pima Community College as Adjunct Faculty. Tammy has been a member of both the American Dental Hygienist Association as well as the Southern Arizona Dental Hygiene Association as a member/delegate. Tammy earned her Associates in Dental Hygiene from Pima Community College in 2005 and a Bachelors of Science/Education from the University of Arizona in 1987. Having worked in the health care field as an athletic trainer/educator, Tammy looks at her career in dental hygiene as a continuation of helping people maintain or reach optimal health, except now with a focus on oral health. “Having come from a career where it was understood that an ankle injury could affect another part of the body, I am so excited to see that oral health and it’s affect on systemic disease is finally getting the attention it deserves. I am pleased that orthodontic health is also starting to get that same attention- how it relates to periodontal health and of course self-esteem. It can really make a difference in how people relate to the world around them when they have a smile they are proud of”.
